Finger painting with Skittles® and M&M's® Craft

As a father of 4 kids I am always excited for summer to arrive. I love spending time with my kids, nieces and nephews and looking for new and fun things to try that will entertain them and build new memories. We love to finger paint, be crafty and learn hands on activities. That being said – I couldn’t think of anything much more fun for them, that using their snacks to create their pictures.

I took and set a 14 oz bag of the new Orchard flavored Skittles® , a 14 oz bag of Wild Berry flavored Skittles® , and a 42 oz bag of peanut M&M’s® in the middle of my kitchen table along with a stack of white card stock paper. This began as an experiment, so they took a Skittles® or M&M’s® color of their choice, licked their finger, rubbed the candy with their wet finger, and then painted different color dots all over the cardstock paper. They tried making rainbows, but couldn’t draw an actual line because their fingers weren’t wet enough.

So I got a small cup of water and let them dip the Skittles® and M&M’s® in the water. This quickly became the method of choice and allowed them to draw all over the paper. As you can see, the yellow M&M’s® made perfect sun rays. Changing up the colors allowed them to really get creative and make an entire masterpiece right before my eyes.

I would have thought about using Skittles® and M&M’s® for finger painting sooner since we love these treats and it would have been a way fun activity on many previous occasions.

The pictures turned out great – and I love how it kept them busy and they got to eat the treats for the “clean up” instead of having a big mess of paints. With the fun finger painting to start off our party we continued to the outdoors to enjoy a family BBQ which included one of my personal favorite drinks (Dr Pepper® Cherry). I love to drink it as I cook and I even love to cook with it. Add it to a dutch oven chicken or substitute the water in an upsidedown cakemix with Dr Pepper® Cherry and you will create a great tasting treat. The BBQ was followed by yummy SNICKERS® Ice Cream Bars and playing on the playground. Of course I couldn’t leave my Dog out, he was begging with big puppy dog eyes when I broke out the Pedigree Dentastix® Beef Flavor treats.

Overall we had a great day. We had planned on going camping and doing these fun things for a camping activity but the weather has been so rainy that we weren’t able to go yet. We still enjoyed our indoor/outdoor party and look forward to repeating this when we go camping in a few weeks. Next time you are at Walmart be sure to pick up all of your favorites. They were easy to find and my kids (and dog) love the selection that we got and the fun that we had with them. I love that the Skittles® and M&M’s® created fun pictures for my kids and also made a great snack in the process.
